Setting up the Hardware

The first step in setting up your Nighthawk XR500 is to attach the antennas. To determine where to attach the antennas, match the labels on the antennas with the labels on the router. Screw the four antennas onto the matching antenna posts.

To get the best WI-Fi performance, position all of the antennas vertically.

Connecting Wireless Devices

On your wireless laptop or PC, access your computer’s Wi-Fi settings.

Find and select your router’s Wi-Fi name (SSID). The name can be found on the label on the top of your XR500.

Enter the router’s default Wi-Fi password which can also be found on the label on the top of your XR500.

Accessing DumaOS

DumaOS is compatible with most Internet browsers. For the best experience we recommend using Google Chrome; although you can use Firefox, Safari, Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer 11 as well.

To access DumaOS, simply type “routerlogin.net” or the router’s LAN IP address (which by default is 192.168.1.1) into the address bar of your chosen browser. The default username is 'admin', and the default password is 'password'. You will be able to change these later.

The welcome tour will now introduce you to DumaOS. Follow this tour to get started.

Checking Your Version

If you have recently completed the Setup Wizard, DumaOS will have detected whether a new firmware version was available. If you allowed it to upgrade, you will be on the latest version and can move on to “Maximise Your Speeds”.

If you have not done this, go to Settings > Administration > Firmware Update. Click the “Check” box on this page, which will detect whether a new version is available to download. If there is a new version and you wish to upgrade, follow the instructions on the screen to complete your upgrade.

To keep the router up to date at all times, we recommend selecting “I Agree” under “Router Auto Firmware Update”.

You have now successfully accessed DumaOS on the Nighthawk XR500, and can now begin to optimise your home network.

To check your version, click the “i” icon found on the top right of DumaOS.
